🏐 inc newsletter🏐

The excitement of netball season is upon us! With a thrilling lineup of matches: Opens and SSG will take place on Saturdays, Open Men's games on Mondays, and Year 7/8 on Wednesdays.

It’s inspiring to see so many teams embracing the NetballSmart warm-up on the court. Remember, warming up not only enhances your performance but also helps you stay in the game longer. Keep at itβ€”once you feel confident, don’t hesitate to mix things up and make it your own!

We’re proud to have 20 junior umpires from INC, proudly wearing their teal shirts as they officiate across Year 7/8 and in SSG and Opens. Let’s rally together to support them with patience and encouragement; your support is vital in helping these juniors build their confidence and skills.

May 24, 2025, we look forward to reminiscing about the rich history that has developed over the past 100 years. We are excited to have Bernice Mene as our guest speaker.

LOOKING BACK IN TIME

Invercargill Netball Centre (INC) and its predecessors, the Southland Netball Union and Southland Basketball/Netball Association, have been providing netball competitions in Invercargill since 1925.

The Southland Netball Association was founded in 1974, and all netball activities were held at Surrey Park Pavilion. In February 2001, as the landscape of netball in New Zealand changed with the creation of five Zones, the Invercargill Netball Centre was established and became part of the South Zone, where we remain today. With over 20 years of experience as INC, along with decades of combined experience from our predecessors, it’s safe to say we love netball! We are proud of our history and excited about our future as we continue to provide quality netball opportunities to the Invercargill community.

Ariana and Wynetta visited Southland Girls High School and James Hargest College to conduct development sessions and skills at trials. We began with the NetballSmart Warm-Up, incorporating some fun games before moving into the development activities. The focus of the sessions was on fitness and fundamental skills essential for netball. By mastering these basics, players will find it easier to develop more advanced skills.

Coaches from James Hargest College were present to assist during the sessions and provided valuable insights on key skill areas to concentrate on for future training. Additionally, INC conducted a coaching session for the Southland Girls coaches, emphasizing the NetballSmart Warm-Up and exploring effective methods for teaching basic skills to players.

It was a pleasure working with both schools, and we look forward to future collaborations.

YR 1-6 DEVELOPMENT

INC launched an engaging development program for our Year 2 to Year 6 children, running for an exciting six weeks. Throughout the program, participants learnt essential skills like landing, pivoting, and passing while enjoying interactive games that reinforced their learning on the court. It was truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and growth as they developed their abilities and formed lasting friendships. This program enhanced their skills and made learning a fun and memorable experience!

We look forward to seeing you all play for your school
